Happy List: December 30, 2018

It’s detox week! The week following Christmas right before New Year is the week that I spend mostly getting everything organized and ready to start the new year on the right foot. This year that meant cleansing everything from my environment to my body. So, this week is all about preparations for 2019:

  1. Acupuncture: I had two acupuncture sessions this past week and they were both so wonderful! I’ve had a couple of experiences with acupuncture a few years ago but it didn’t really stick - partially because I was a broke college student and partially because I wasn’t as in tune with my body. But my colleague recommended a “community” space with reasonable prices, so I decided to give it a shot. Since starting back up again I’ve found it so refreshing to rebalance my body, and I plan to continue going regularly.

  2. Hot Yoga: Sweating is one of the most satisfying ways for me to detox; combine that with a nice yoga flow and I’m hooked. I often don’t feel up to more than a couple of yoga classes a week, but since my office has been closed and things have been slow, I’ve had the energy to go multiple times this week. It was so nice to feel well enough to be able to go to a nice hot class and sweat it out!

  3. My Parents: This week I had major post-Christmas blues. As soon as my family left to go home to Hawaii I immediately felt sad and homesick. My blues were made worse by the fact that Carlos has been working long hours during the holiday rush and, as I mentioned, work has been slow for me. I’ve talked to my parents several times a week since leaving home, but this week it’s been so nice to chat with them daily even if it’s just for a few minutes to say hi. I know they’ve taken time out of their busy days just to check in on me and for that I’m always grateful.

  4. My Sister: Similarly, my sister went home to Hawaii this week for some much needed rest and relaxation! But, a single day hasn’t gone by where she hasn’t called me in the evening to give me an update, see how I’m feeling, and have general sister chats. I miss her so much!

  5. Reading: I feel like I re-discovered reading this week, which I realize may sound sort of dumb. With my abundance of free time this week I decided I’d pick up one of my favorite childhood books and give it a read. I forgot how much I love getting lost in a great story! I’ve since picked up another book and ordered myself a Kindle - I really want to try to spend less time mindlessly watching YouTube or TV and spend more time with a good book.
